The Commercial Appeal, a daily newspaper covering Memphis, Tennessee, and its surrounding area, is reporting that SJSU athletic director Tom Bowen has been selected as the new athletic director at the University of Memphis.
The Commercial Appeal is reporting that they have obtained an internal memo confirming the hire.
Bowen was a candidate for the Memphis athletic director position late last week, but nothing had been confirmed.
Bowen had also been considered for the same job at the University of Central Florida in January, but ultimately chose to stay with SJSU.
He has been the athletic director at SJSU since 2004 after holding the positions of executive director of the 49ers Foundation and director of community affairs with the San Francisco 49ers in the past.
Currently, SJSU athletics is pursuing a membership in the Mountain West Conference (MWC), after spending the last 16 years with the Western Athletic Conference (WAC), according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Since Bowen was hired by SJSU in 2004, there have been 10 coaching changes, as well as an up-and-coming football program led by SJSU head coach Mike MacIntyre.
The Commercial Appeal is reporting that a press conference to announce the hiring of Bowen will occur on Monday.
